Dr. Mark Sirett
An award-winning conductor and composer.
Cantabile’s Founding Artistic Director, Mark Sirett, holds both masters and doctoral degrees in choral conducting and pedagogy from the University of Iowa. Dr. Sirett has won two international awards in conducting: the Jury Prize for Imaginative Programming and Artistry at the 2002 Cork International Choral Festival, and Outstanding Conductor at the 2004 Young Prague Festival. In 2009 he was the recipient of the Presidents Leadership Award from Choirs Ontario.
He has been guest conductor at the University of Toronto Summer Choral Symposium, Unisong Festival in Ottawa, AMIS Women’s Honours Choir (Luxembourg), MoZaik Festival, Ontario Youth Choir, Manitoba Children’s Honours Choirs, Saskatchewan Honours Youth Choir (SMEA), Alberta Children’s Honours Choir & Nova Scotia Honours Children’s Choir. He directed the inaugural Alberta Big Sing in Calgary, 2017 and Singspiration in Edmonton, 2018. In November 2018 he will direct the Asia/Pacific Music Festival Honours Choir in South Korea.
Dr. Sirett frequently appears as an adjudicator and clinician. He has been a clinician for Choral Canada, The Royal Canadian College of Organists, Choirs Alberta, Saskatchewan Choral Federation, Manitoba Music Educators’ Association, Nova Scotia Choral Federation and the Royal School of Church Music.
Dr. Sirett is also an award-winning composer whose works are frequently performed nationally and internationally. On two occasions, in 2014 and 2018, he has been the awarded Outstanding Choral Composition from Choral Canada. His works have been published in Canada, USA, the UK, Germany and Sweden by major publishing houses such as Oxford University Press, Boosey & Hawkes, Carus Verlag, Alliance Music, Walton and others.
