There are currently 7 choirs in the Cantabile organization, totaling almost 300 singers.

Primary Choir

Junior Choir

The Cantabile Primary Choir is for boys and girls ages 6 & 7, and provides a unique opportunity for young children to become acquainted singing and musical fundamentals.  Margaret Moncrieff and Sophie Szczesniak direct.

Junior Choir

Junior Choir

The Cantabile Junior Choir is for boys and girls ages 8 & 9, and provides a unique opportunity for children to become aquainted with choral music and repertoire.  These young children traditionally sing the December matinee and a concert in April.  Alana Sergeant directs.  Assistants for the choir include Joan Egnatoff and Anne-Lorraine Molloy.  Michel Szczesniak is the accompanist.

Children’s Choir

Children's ChoirThe Children’s Choir is for boys and girls ages 10 – 13. The Children rehearse on Mondays and Wednesdays from, 4:15 to 5:15, September to mid-April. The choir sings at three of the five concerts in our season, and participate in regional tours. Recent projects have included a staging of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ and ‘Listen UP!’ with Canada’s celebrated Gryphon Trio.  The Choir is directed by Artistic Director Mark Sirett.

Young Women’s Choir

Young Women's ChoirThe award-winning Young Women’s Choir is for young women in grade 8 and high school.  The choir rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays after school Grade 8 to high school ages.

The choir joins the Young Men’s Chorus to form the Cantabile Youth Singers, performs at four of the five concerts in the Cantabile season, and tour nationally and internationally (Alberta, Ireland, England, France and Italy.) In 2017 the teen choirs toured Cuba for a musical and cultural exchange. The Young Women have been frequent award-winners in the Ontario Provincial Finals. The choir is directed by Dr Mark Sirett.  Michel Szczesniak is the accompanist.

Young Men’s Chorus

Made up of  junior and high school young men with changed-voices, the Young Men’s Chorus rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays, alternating the 3:30 start time with the Young Women, as well as joining forces to perform combined repertoire.

The Young Men perform at four of the five regular season concerts, and tour nationally and internationally (England, Alberta, France, Italy, Czech Republic). In 2017 the teen choirs toured Cuba for a musical and cultural exchange. The choir is directed by Dr Mark Sirett and accompanied by Michel Szczesniak.

Youth Singers

Youth SingersThe Youth Singers is an SATB ensemble of teen voices that joins the Young Women’s and Young Men’s Choruses. The Youth Singers have recieved national and international acclaim and awards, and frequently travel.

The Youth Singers have toured England, Ireland, Prague, Italy, France, and Cuba. In Prague they were awarded “Gold” as one of the outstanding choirs of the Young Prague Festival.  The choir is directed by Dr Mark Sirett and is accompanied by Michel Szczesniak.

Women’s Chorus

Women's ChorusThe Women’s Chorus rehearses Wednesday evenings, and performs four concerts in the season, appear throughout the region, and tour nationally and internationally.  The Women have been semi-finalists in the CBC Choral Competition.

The Women have toured Newfoundland, Scotland and Ireland in 2011, Italy 2014, France in 2016 and most recently Ireland in 2017. The choir is directed by Dr. Mark Sirett.  Clare Gordon is the accompanist.

Men’s Choir

The Cantabile Men’s Choir debuted in April 2007.   This choir rehearses Wednesday evenings, and performs at four out of five concerts in the regular season, perform locally outside of the regular season, and tour nationally and internationally.

In 2013 the Men’s and Women’s Chorus’s travelled to Italy and sang mass at St Peter’s Basilica.  Further travels took the choir to France in 2016 (Notre Dame, Chartres, Vimy) and Ireland in 2017.

The choir is directed by Dr. Mark Sirett. Clare Gordon is the accompanist.
